ATHLETE TESTING SERVICES
All testing is done by appointment only.
Whether you are an elite athlete, weekend warrior, or someone brand new to exercise, you can benefit from exercise testing. Exercise testing can give you valuable information to help take your performance to the next level, or safely begin a new training program. At the Parvilla Custom Sports Performance Lab, all testing is performed by Kelsey Corrigan, Kinesiology M.A. Using state of the art equipment, you will receive personalized attention and thorough explanations of your results to help unlock your potential.
Kelsey Corrigan received a B.S. in Exercise Science from Ithaca College, and a Master’s in Kinesiology, with a concentration in Cardiovascular Exercise Physiology, from the University of Maryland. She has extensive experience in exercise physiology research, and is a published scientific author. Her research, coupled with her background as an athlete, has given her a unique understanding and perspective of exercise testing in athletes.
KNOW YOUR NUMBERS
INCREASE YOUR PERFORMANCE
VO2 Max Test (Approx Time: 60min)
Your performance is only as good as your muscles, and cardiovascular system. Once those systems have reached their top performance, you will not be able to push any harder. VO2 max is the maximal amount of oxygen your working muscles are able to utilize during exercise. Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max) can be increased with training, thereby increasing your cardiovascular capacity. Through the VO2 max testing process, you will also receive information about heart rate training zones, and resting metabolic rate. This is a graded exercise test performed on either the stationary bike or treadmill.
Lactate Threshold Test (Approx Time: 60min)
Lactate threshold is the point during exercises at which lactate begins to accumulate in the blood. The accumulation of lactate leads to fatigue of the working muscles, and often that “burning” feeling that we all know so well. Once lactate threshold is reached, you will be forced to slow down or stop. Lactate threshold can be increased by training, effectively increasing the pace or sustained effort you can maintain for longer periods of exercise. The test is a graded exercises test, where a simple finger stick is taken at the end of each stage to measure blood lactate. From the lactate threshold test, we will also be able to determine power zones and functional threshold (FTP). This is a graded exercise test performed on either the stationary bike or treadmill.
Wingate Test (Approx Time: 30 min)
This is a sprint test which measures peak anaerobic power, overall anaerobic capacity, and anaerobic fatigue. Your Wingate test results will give you information about your body’s ability to produce quick bursts of power and energy. It will also give information about how efficient you are at utilizing anaerobic metabolic pathways. Speed training can improve your anaerobic capacity and sprinting abilities. This is a cycling specific test.
Body Composition (Approx Time: 30 min)
Body composition is an important analytic for both athletes and non-athletes. Percent body fat is directly correlated with both health and performance. Knowing your body composition gives you important baseline information to start a training plan, or a weight loss plan. Body composition is a quick, non-invasive test, and accurate test. Your percent body fat will be measured by using a skin caliper on 9 specific anatomical sites.
Gait Analysis (Approx Time: 30 min)
Many injuries and inefficiencies start at the foot and ankle. Understanding how your gait impacts your bio-mechanics is an excellent practice to prevent injury and increase efficiency. Running or walking gait will be recorded and analyzed using state of the art video-capture technology. You will receive valuable information about the types of footwear or support you should consider. This test is done only on the treadmill.
Packages are designed to give you the most comprehensive information about your body, and current levels of performance. Aerobic fitness, anaerobic fitness, body composition, and gait all work together to create your performance abilities. Evaluating all of the pieces of the puzzle allows you to have the most well-rounded information, and ultimately gives you the best information to increase performance. Multi-visit packages are the best way to see progress from your training program, and see where changes are happening in your fitness and performance. Certain packages have been designed with certain athletes in mind, but if you don’t see the package that fits your needs, we are happy to help design one for you.
Example: The VO2/Lactate/Comp/Gait Package was designed with the the triathlete in mind. For the price of the package you will get a VO2 Max test, Lactate Threshold Test, Body Composition and Gait Analysis. These tests are all applicable to the sport of triathlon, and give you comprehensive and detailed analytics about your current performance abilities, so that you can tailor your training to your needs. Packages are also available as a 3-Pack as well! Email for more info.
